Burundi U15 team loses to Canada in FIFA tournament

The Burundi U15 team was eliminated from the FIFA U15 World Cup Festival after a 7-0 loss to Canada in Division D quarter-finals.

The Burundi U15 team, nicknamed the "Hirondelles", was knocked out of the FIFA U15 World Cup Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, on October 28. After winning their 16th and 8th round matches in Division D, the team suffered a 7-0 defeat against Canada in the quarter-finals. This result placed Burundi in the Top 8 of Division D, the tournament's fourth tier.

Burundi was placed in Group G with Portugal, Wales, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Fiji. Following the group stage, the team was assigned to Level D, which ranks teams from 97th to 128th overall out of 189 participating nations. The "Hirondelles" had previously secured a 4-3 victory against Togo in the Round of 16 and a 2-1 win over Cape Verde in the Round of 8.

Spain was crowned the first-ever U15 world champion after defeating the Czech Republic in the final of Level A. The tournament featured 189 nations playing in an eight-a-side format. Eight African nations, including Algeria, Morocco, Angola, Cameroon, Guinea, Egypt, Ghana, and Kenya, topped their respective groups.
