Burundian engineer creates maize sheller
Jean-Bosco Ndayizeye's company D-Techno built a machine to help farmers process harvests.
Jean-Bosco Ndayizeye, an engineer in Gitega, Burundi, co-founded Development Technology in 2023 to create useful equipment.
His company developed a maize sheller after observing farmers' difficulties in separating grains from cobs during large harvests. A local maize seed multiplier, who harvests 100 tonnes per season and was considering importing a sheller from China, has now turned to D-Techno for their machine.
Ndayizeye also previously participated in creating an irrigation machine in 2020 that uses water flow, not electricity or fuel, to pump water to fields.
