PAM equips Burundi institutions with 74 devices
Computers, printers, and scanners will strengthen public services for school feeding and social protection.
The World Food Programme (WFP) provided 74 pieces of equipment, including laptops, printers, and scanners, to Burundi's National Office for Refugees and Stateless Persons (ONPRA) and the Permanent Executive Secretariat of the National Social Protection Commission (SEP/CNPS) on October 30, 2026. The equipment aims to enhance the work capabilities of public services involved in school feeding and social protection initiatives.
Of the total devices, 27 laptops and 27 printers/scanners are allocated to education services in 27 communes, while 14 laptops and 6 printers/scanners will support the social protection sector. This initiative accompanies the increasing responsibility of communes in organizing school meals, with WFP support and under the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research.
The national school feeding program, PNASE, prioritizes locally produced food, connecting children's education with economic opportunities for agricultural producers and local processing units. Schools will source supplies from cooperatives, fostering a link between education and local economic development.
Why it mattersBurundian agricultural producers and local processing units will benefit from increased demand for locally sourced food for school meals.
