Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirms negative Ebola tests

Two suspected cases in Adamawa State tested negative for Ebola Virus Disease after two rounds of laboratory tests.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) announced that two suspected Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases in Adamawa State have tested negative. The individuals, who showed symptoms suggestive of Ebola in Yola, were isolated while investigations took place. The NCDC confirmed that the index case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains the only confirmed infection in Nigeria.

NCDC Director-General Dr Jide Idris stated that the report of the suspected cases was received by the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) on October 30, 2026. Samples from the individuals underwent two rounds of laboratory testing, both yielding negative results for Ebola. Idris commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and their team for their proactive approach and assured continued technical support.

This development follows the confirmation of a Bundibugyo Ebola case in Abuja, involving a traveler from Uganda. The negative results in Adamawa have eased concerns about a potential spread. Idris urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, advising them to seek official communication channels for updates. He also stressed the importance of continued vigilance and seeking immediate medical attention for anyone experiencing Ebola-like symptoms.
