Group urges southern presidency until 2031

BTO For PBAT '27 Support Group says power rotation promotes equity and political balance in Nigeria.

The BTO For PBAT ’27 Support Group has called for the Nigerian presidency to remain in Southern Nigeria until 2031. Director-General Ogbeni Adojutelegan Adesuyi Gideon stated in Akure that this would promote equity, fairness, and political balance. He argued that allowing the South to complete an eight-year tenure would strengthen national unity and democratic stability.

Adojutelegan acknowledged that power rotation is not in the constitution but is a vital political arrangement for national cohesion. The group, led by the Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, believes equitable arrangements are essential for mutual trust and deepening democracy. They stated their position is anchored on equity, fairness, and justice, not sectionalism.

The group advocates for the continuation of a southern presidency until 2031 to reinforce fairness and political accommodation. They stressed that Nigeria's democratic stability depends on leaders upholding inclusion and mutual respect. This call is for political fairness and democratic consolidation, not to deny any Nigerian the right to contest elections.

Why it mattersThe group's call for the presidency to remain in the South until 2031 aims to ensure equity, fairness, and political balance among Nigeria's geopolitical zones.
