Benin women's handball team draws Egypt for Africa Cup

The Amazones will face Egypt, Congo, and Cape Verde in Group A of the 2026 tournament in Tunisia.

Benin's women's national handball team, the Amazones, will compete against Egypt, Congo, and Cape Verde in Group A of the 2026 Africa Women's Handball Cup of Nations. The draw for the tournament, scheduled for December 2-12 in Tunisia, took place on Thursday, October 29, in Abidjan.

The 27th edition of the Cup of Nations will feature 16 teams. Egypt finished fourth and Congo sixth in the previous edition. Benin qualified for the tournament by winning the first IHF Women's Trophy for Africa Zone III in Ouagadougou in September, defeating Ivory Coast 29-28 in the final.

To prepare for the Tunisian event, the Benin Handball Federation appointed Euphémie Dartron-Lairy as technical coordinator for the selection. The team is currently training in Morocco at the Smara International Tournament, which also includes the host nation, the United States, and Canada.
