Botswana's first basketball club to advance after finishing Lusaka campaign with three wins.
Dolphins Basketball Club has become Botswana’s first basketball club to reach the Road to BAL Elite 16. The team secured this progression by finishing their Group E campaign in Lusaka with three wins and a 3-2 record. FIBA had identified Dolphins as being on the brink of history before their final match.
The Botswana champions achieved this progression despite a final match loss to Ferroviário da Beira on Tuesday. Earlier in the campaign, Dolphins secured a 77-72 victory over Zimbabwe’s Harare Kings, with Dallan Coleman scoring 19 points. They also achieved a comeback win against Malawi’s Bravehearts, winning 78-74 after trailing at halftime.
Dolphins experienced a 96-56 defeat against hosts Munali Suns in Zambia. However, they responded with a 63-56 victory over South Africa’s Soweto Panthers. This win lifted their record to 3-1, putting qualification within reach before the final match.
