Makhadzi held in Botswana over P500,000 dispute

South African musician's passport surrendered to deputy sheriff pending court hearing on November 5.

South African musician Makhadzi is unable to leave Botswana due to a P500,000 legal dispute with promoter Gilbert PP Seagile. A court order obtained by Seagile bars her departure until at least November 5, 2026, when her lawyers will challenge the restriction.

Seagile claims Makhadzi owes him P500,000 for failing to appear at a One Woman Show on September 12, 2026, causing financial and reputational damage. While no formal contract was signed, Seagile stated a conversation acknowledged the event, and Makhadzi's passport was surrendered to the deputy sheriff.

The promoter confirmed the court order, which reportedly included provisions for Makhadzi's passport surrender and potential imprisonment, though he stated they opted not to pursue imprisonment while negotiations were ongoing.
