Ramaotwana asked to probe Masisi-linked trust dispute

Acting chief Kgosi Oscar Mosielele seeks investigation into alleged mismanagement of the Ipelego Community Trust.

Acting chief Kgosi Oscar Mosielele has asked Justice Minister Nelson Ramaotwana to direct the Master of the High Court to investigate a multimillion-pula dispute concerning trustees linked to former President Mokgweetsi Masisi. Mosielele filed complaints alleging that the trustees of the Ipelego Community Trust, founded by Masisi, had failed to follow legal requirements for trusts. The trustees include Masisi's sister, Boitumelo Phadi Mmutle, and the trust's chair, Kgosi Kgabosetso II Mosielele.

In a letter dated September 24, Mosielele stated the trustees failed to submit required reports, maintain proper accounts, and prepare financial statements. He accused them of not acting in good faith and running the community trust like a private entity. The chair reportedly acknowledged due process was not followed and agreed to prepare documents for community transfer, but trustees later refused to participate in proceedings.

Mosielele raised concerns about financial records, noting omissions from August 24, 2016, to March 31, 2018, and a lack of donor identification for 5,847,768 pula in donations. The trust also allegedly failed to provide bank statements or details on transactions totaling 259,775.94 pula during a transition period. A handover meeting was scheduled for March 6, 2026.

Why it mattersThe dispute affects beneficiaries of the Ipelego Community Trust, founded by former President Masisi, due to alleged mismanagement by its trustees.
