Bandundu residents fear rising crime

Nightly thefts, assaults, and robberies are increasing, prompting calls for more security patrols.

Insecurity is growing in Bandundu, the capital of Kwilu province, with residents reporting more nightly thefts, assaults, and robberies. Criminals are reportedly breaking into homes by piercing walls to steal valuables. Taxi-moto drivers are also targeted, with some being drugged before their motorcycles are stolen.

The latest incident occurred Tuesday night into Wednesday in the Office neighborhood, where unknown individuals entered a business and took merchandise, causing significant losses. Me Désiré Iyemvela Eminga, a provincial assembly reporter and elected official from Bandundu, expressed deep concern and urged security services to increase police patrols and operations to dismantle criminal networks.

Eminga believes a stronger police presence in sensitive areas could prevent banditry and restore public confidence. Residents are awaiting concrete actions from authorities for a more effective security system to ensure public peace and allow daily activities in a safe environment.
