DR Congo Ebola cases surpass 10,000
The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded over 10,000 confirmed Ebola cases and nearly 5,000 deaths since the outbreak began.
More than five months after the Ebola epidemic was declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the country has surpassed 10,000 confirmed cases. As of October 25, health ministry data shows 10,060 cases and 4,887 deaths. The Ituri province remains the epidemic's epicenter, with North Kivu also heavily affected.
On October 25 alone, health services confirmed 96 new cases, including 58 in North Kivu, 32 in Ituri, and six in Tshopo province, alongside 46 additional deaths. Ituri accounts for over 70 percent of infections with more than 7,200 cases and 3,370 deaths. North Kivu has over 2,300 cases and nearly 1,300 deaths.
The disease has spread to 66 health zones across eight provinces since May 15. While over 2,600 patients have recovered, response teams face challenges tracking contacts, especially in remote areas. In Ituri, two women with suspected symptoms could not be transferred to a treatment center due to a lack of available ambulances.
