Fire disrupts Kinshasa medical Centre

Emergency services evacuated patients from Centre Médical Diamant after a generator fire on November 4.

A fire disrupted patient care on Wednesday, November 4, at the Centre Médical Diamant in Kinshasa's Ngaliema commune. The blaze, which started around 6 a.m., forced staff to urgently evacuate patients, including those in intensive care.

The medical facility showed signs of damage, with broken windows from the flames. Medical teams worked outside to manage the aftermath, while thick smoke rose into the sky hours after firefighters from the Kinshasa City Hall and MONUSCO controlled the fire. Consultations were temporarily stopped.

Witnesses suggested a generator left running in the scanner room, at the moment the national electricity company (SNEL) restored power, may have caused the fire, though official confirmation is pending. No injuries or deaths were reported due to the rapid evacuation and emergency response.
