Central African Republic fuel prices rise, rights group calls for dialogue
The OCDH expressed concern over the impact of rising fuel costs on living conditions and demanded the release of civil society leaders.
Fuel prices have increased in Bangui, prompting concern from the Central African Observatory for Human Rights (OCDH). In a statement on October 22, the OCDH highlighted the negative consequences of the price hike on the population's living conditions. The organization is calling for dialogue to achieve a reduction in fuel prices and the release of arrested civil society leaders.
The COSCIPAC also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of civil society leaders arrested after an October 12 "ville morte" day. In a declaration on October 23 in Bangui, the organization challenged President Faustin-Archange Touadéra's arguments and sought answers to the social crisis.
The political movement "I LEKE KÖDÖRÖ – LES BÂTISSEURS" (ILK-LB) noted that government and union agreements have not sufficiently eased social unrest over rising fuel prices and the cost of living. ILK-LB urged stakeholders to prioritize the general interest and dialogue to prevent a devastating social crisis.
