Wagner-backed CAR forces eye Chad border
Bangui fears France will use Chad as a base to overthrow Central African Republic's government.
Tensions are high on the border between the Central African Republic (CAR) and Chad, with reports of imminent military confrontation. Observers note alarming signals of conflict between Bangui's forces, supported by Russian Wagner mercenaries and Sudanese FSR paramilitaries, and the Chadian army.
CAR's government, through advisor Jules Njawe and spokesperson Maxime Mokpeme Yaloké, claims France might use Chad as a rear base to destabilize the CAR. They believe N'Djamena is a springboard for a Western counter-offensive against the Russian presence in Africa, centered in Bangui.
This perceived threat has led Touadéra and his Russian allies to prepare for a decisive response. The populations on both sides of the artificial border are reportedly concerned about potential famine and forced displacement.
