Congo unions demand E2C general director's dismissal
Workers cite power outages, financial irregularities, and poor maintenance at the state electricity company.
Trade unions in the Republic of Congo are demanding the immediate dismissal of Jean-Bruno Danga Adou, the general director of Énergie électrique du Congo (E2C). Representatives of the workers issued a statement on October 23 in Brazzaville, denouncing alleged managerial and technical failures within the public company.
The unions highlighted deteriorating electricity supply, particularly in Brazzaville, leading to spoiled food, damaged appliances, and business slowdowns. They rejected blame on field agents, stating a lack of necessary equipment and alleged abandonment of preventive maintenance on production and distribution networks. The unions also cited alleged fund misappropriation and conflicts of interest in contract awards.
A general assembly is scheduled for November 18 at the company's Brazzaville headquarters to formalize the demand for the director general and his team to step down. The unions also reported intimidations against some of their members.
