Congo university talks suspended

Government and UMNG union negotiators failed to agree on salary arrears payments after over a week of talks.

Negotiations between the Republic of Congo government and the University Marien-Ngouabi (UMNG) inter-union college were suspended on October 19 in Brazzaville.

The discussions, which lasted over a week, did not yield a compromise on the demands of teaching and administrative staff, particularly concerning outstanding salary payments and a clear schedule for full arrears settlement.

Both sides expressed a desire to continue dialogue, but no date has been set for the resumption of talks, leaving the resolution of staff claims uncertain.
