Ivory Coast court postpones Tidjane Thiam PDCI leadership hearing

A court in Abidjan adjourned a case challenging Tidjane Thiam's election as PDCI president until November 19.

A court in Abidjan postponed a hearing on Tidjane Thiam's election as president of the Democratic Party of Ivory Coast (PDCI). The hearing was adjourned until November 19 after the judge decided to consolidate additional legal actions.

Two party members brought the case claiming the party's rules were not followed during the electoral process. These include a challenge by another member seeking to annul resolutions from last year's party congress and appoint an interim president. The first two suits are against the PDCI, while a third case targets Thiam and his vice president directly.

In May 2025, an Ivorian court dismissed a previous legal challenge against Thiam's leadership of the PDCI, which argued he was ineligible due to acquiring French citizenship in 1987.
