Rwanda coffee fetches record US$452 per kilogramme
K-Organics Ltd's specialty coffee sold for five times the previous year's price at the Best of Rwanda auction.
Rwanda's specialty coffee reached a record US$452 per kilogramme at the Best of Rwanda 2026 online auction on October 21. This price, equivalent to about Rwf670,000, was paid for coffee produced by K-Organics Ltd.
The winning bid was five times higher than the Rwf130,000 achieved by the company in 2025, and about 66 times the international market average of US$6.90 per kilogramme, according to the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB). NAEB chief executive Claude Bizimana called the result a milestone for the country's coffee industry.
Bizimana attributed the record price to farmers' adoption of good agricultural practices, supply-chain contributions, and suitable coffee varieties. Farmers benefit from a 75% profit-sharing arrangement from coffee sales, with processing and exporting companies receiving the remaining 25%.
Why it mattersFarmers in Rwanda will receive 75% of profits from the record-breaking coffee sales.
