AfDB approves CFA26.2 billion facility for AFG Bank Cameroon

The African Development Bank will provide a credit line and guarantee facility to boost trade finance for local businesses.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has approved a CFA26.2 billion financing facility for AFG Bank Cameroon. The approval, made on October 21, 2026, aims to increase lending to businesses engaged in international trade. The package includes a CFA19.7 billion credit line and a CFA6.6 billion guarantee facility.

The AfDB's statement on October 21 detailed that the credit line has a three-and-a-half-year term with a three-year grace period. The five-year guarantee facility will allow the AfDB to cover up to 100% of the risk for AFG Bank Cameroon's trade finance transactions. This is intended to encourage foreign banks to confirm letters of credit issued by AFG Bank Cameroon, facilitating payments to suppliers.

The Cameroon Business Forum 2026, which opened in Douala on October 22, 2026, is also focusing on productive transformation and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute is presiding over the forum, which concludes on October 23, 2026, and aims to make Cameroon a major industrial and commercial hub in Africa.

Why it mattersCameroonian businesses involved in international trade will benefit from increased access to financing and easier supplier payments.
