Cameroon secures 215.9 million euros from Green Climate Fund

The country's Ministry of Economy, Planning and Territorial Development is now accredited to implement climate projects.

Cameroon secured 215.9 million euros for its RACINE project from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) on October 27, 2026, in Songdo, South Korea. The GCF approved the Resilient Agriculture for Climate, Investment, Nature and Equity (RACINE) project, with 87 million euros directly committed by the fund. This funding is for transforming the cocoa and coffee sectors to be more productive, climate-resilient, traceable, and deforestation-free.

The RACINE project will cover Cameroon's Centre, South, East, Littoral, and South-West regions, with the Fund for the Development of Cocoa and Coffee Sectors (FODECC) acting as the implementing entity. Beyond the financial allocation, the accreditation of Cameroon's Ministry of Economy, Planning and Territorial Development (MINEPAT) allows the country to directly manage and implement GCF projects.

This accreditation demonstrates Cameroon's capacity to develop its own institutional responses to climate challenges. The RACINE project aims to protect nature, secure producer incomes, and position Cameroonian agriculture in demanding international markets that prioritize traceability and sustainability.

Why it mattersCameroonian farmers will benefit from more productive and climate-resilient cocoa and coffee sectors, securing their incomes.
