Cape Verde agency finds non-ionizing radiation within limits

ARME measured 77 sites in Praia and found exposure levels below international health recommendations.

The Economy Multilateral Regulatory Agency (ARME) reported that non-ionizing radiation (NIR) levels in Praia are within recommended limits. A 2026 monitoring campaign across 77 locations in the capital found no danger to public health from radiofrequency stations.

ARME stated that all 77 measured points in Praia met exposure limits ranging from 28 V/m to 61 V/m, with most values significantly below these thresholds. The agency also monitored other islands, with results expected this year.

This initiative aligns with ARME's role in managing the radio spectrum, aiming to track population exposure from radiofrequency stations used for mobile, radio, and television services. The findings adhere to International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guidelines.

Why it mattersCape Verdean residents in Praia are protected from harmful exposure to non-ionizing radiation from radiofrequency stations.
