Djibouti arrests four for online blackmail and child abuse material
Authorities seized digital content and arrested suspects facing up to 10 years in prison.
Djibouti's national cybersecurity agency, in collaboration with the Gendarmerie, arrested four individuals suspected of online crimes. The arrests followed investigations into digital offenses, including three cases of alleged online blackmail and one case involving the detention and distribution of child pornography. Digital content was seized during the operations.
The suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutor following the completion of investigations. The charges they face carry potential sentences ranging from six to 10 years of criminal imprisonment. This action is part of a broader awareness campaign against online abuses launched by the cybersecurity agency.
The announcement comes less than a month after a similar arrest on October 7 for online child sexual abuse. Authorities have recently increased calls for public vigilance against offenses committed on social networks.
