student launches Algeria's first traffic congestion index
Takieddine Rehail's platform analyzes traffic data from Google Maps for 27 Algerian cities.
Takieddine Rehail, a third-year student at ESTIN in Bejaïa, has developed the Algerian Urban Congestion Index. This platform uses Google Maps traffic data to monitor and analyze road congestion in 27 Algerian cities, including Algiers and Oran, without needing physical sensors.
The project, developed under Professor Faïcal Azouaou, aims to provide real-time information on traffic levels and allow comparisons between cities. Nesrine Mitouche, ESTIN's communications officer, stated the platform helps observe congestion changes throughout the day.
This tool can assist local authorities, urban planners, and transport engineers in addressing mobility issues. The platform is accessible at dz-traffic.estin.dz.
Why it mattersAlgerian cities experience dense traffic, and this tool provides data to help manage mobility issues.
