Egypt shops adjust to winter hours

Retailers will close at 10:00 pm, while restaurants can stay open until midnight.

Egypt's shops and restaurants are now operating under new winter hours following the nation's shift to standard time. Retail shops and malls must close by 10:00 pm, with an extended hour on Thursdays, Fridays, and public holidays. Workshops and craft businesses will operate from eight am to six pm, though exceptions exist for businesses on main roads or providing urgent services.

Restaurants and cafés can welcome customers from five am until midnight, with a one-hour extension to one am on holidays. Home delivery services for these establishments are permitted to operate 24 hours a day. These winter operating hours are distinct from the national time change, which set clocks back by 60 minutes.

Grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries, fruit and vegetable shops, poultry retailers, wholesale markets, and pharmacies are among the establishments exempted from these closing times. These exemptions allow for continuous operation throughout the night where necessary.

Why it mattersEgypt's businesses are adjusting their operating hours due to the seasonal time change.
