Gabon health minister inspects Mouila health facilities

Minister Elsa Nkana Bivigou reviewed services from regional health direction to a provincial training school.

Gabon's Health Minister Elsa Nkana Bivigou inspected health facilities in Mouila on October 29, 2026. The minister visited the Regional Health Direction, the Ambulatory Treatment Centre, the urban health centre, maternal and child health services, the epidemiological base, and the provincial school for health workers. Her goal was to assess operations, identify issues, and improve care for the population.

During her tour, Minister Bivigou examined how services function, staff working conditions, and facility capacities. Discussions with managers revealed several shortcomings, leading to recommendations and requests for further explanation on operational reports. Working sessions are planned to determine corrective measures.

The minister also focused on the presence of specialist doctors redeployed to regional hospitals, a policy aimed at bringing specialized care closer to rural populations. Initial observations suggest this initiative is encouraging, with facilities seeing significant patient numbers seeking medical expertise now available in the provinces.

Why it mattersGabon's populations in Mouila will receive improved healthcare quality and access to specialist doctors.
