NPP targets minister for exposing wrongdoing, says NDC

Fifi Kwetey claims the ruling party is retaliating against Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for revealing alleged theft and abuse.

NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of targeting Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Kwetey stated on JoyNews that the NPP is retaliating against Ablakwa for exposing alleged wrongdoing during its administration. He challenged the NPP to produce evidence that the minister stole public funds, dismissing protests in Accra as a campaign against Ablakwa for holding the NPP accountable.

The NPP youth wing demonstrated in Accra, demanding the recovery of GH¢16.4 million they allege was unaccounted for during the evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaians. Protesters requested flight invoices, payment records, a full beneficiary list, and an independent audit. Kwetey dismissed concerns about signatures and alleged duplications in ministry documents as peripheral, asserting Ablakwa provided "hardcore evidence" of stealing and abuse with authentic documentation.

Kwetey warned the NPP that their current path of "low-level politicking" would hinder their political recovery. He recalled his own decision to leave a role after the 2016 election defeat due to pressure to find scandals, stating he would only speak on genuine wrongdoing. The NDC General Secretary maintained that any shortfalls should have been reported at the airport by recipients, not months later.

Why it mattersGhanaian citizens, particularly those involved in or observing political accountability, are affected by accusations of corruption and political retaliation.
