Dumbuya promises D2,000 rent if elected
Democratic Party leader Yusupha A. Dumbuya faced questions from the IEC over missing nomination documents.
Democratic Party leader Yusupha A. Dumbuya pledged to cap rent for a two-bedroom house at D2,000 if elected president. He also proposed D4,000 for a three-bedroom house, with government subsidies to support the plan. Dumbuya presented his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Wednesday.
IEC Chairman Joseph Colley raised concerns about Dumbuya’s nomination, noting the absence of his voter’s card and Senior Secondary School Certificate. The commission also questioned the proof of payment for the D1 million nomination fee and inconsistencies in his name. Dumbuya’s nomination is pending verification of these requirements.
Dumbuya also criticized the government for failing to deliver a new constitution and promised to implement constitutional term limits. Former Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray also filed her nomination as an independent candidate for the December 5 presidential election.
