Guinean man freed after six months in jail for theft

Amadou Diallo was acquitted by the Dixinn court on November 5, 2026, for a crime he denied committing.

Amadou Diallo walked free on Thursday, November 5, 2026, after spending over six months in prison. He was detained on April 24, 2026, accused of theft by his neighbor, Mamadou Bobo Diallo. The Dixinn Court of First Instance found Amadou Diallo not guilty of the charges, stating the offense was not constituted.

Amadou Diallo told the court he had only climbed a wall to enter his own home when he was arrested. The public prosecutor, Mamadou Yaya Fatoumata Boiro, had requested a one-year sentence, with six months suspended, believing Diallo was guilty because he was apprehended in the complainant's yard at night. The court, however, did not follow the prosecution's recommendation.

Amadou Diallo explained that an altercation occurred after he climbed the fence and was questioned by his neighbor. The neighborhood chief intervened, and the dispute was brought before the court. The verdict means Amadou Diallo is released from detention.
