Equatorial Guinea sets six-month deadline for cocoa factory

The government will launch a cocoa processing factory to produce paste for chocolate.

The government of Equatorial Guinea has given itself six months to launch a factory for processing national cocoa production. This factory will produce cocoa paste, a raw material for chocolate.

The decision was made in Malabo during a meeting with the prime minister and ministers of Agriculture, Hacienda, and TesorerĂa. Companies ANONEY SERVICE and GETRANSCAO will supply quicklime and copper sulfate, with prices negotiated down by up to 10%. The government will also directly hire a shipping company for transport.

This initiative aims to move Equatorial Guinea from selling raw cocoa to processing its own production. The strategy seeks to strengthen the agricultural sector, improve cocoa and coffee production, create jobs, add value, and reduce reliance on imports.

Why it mattersFarmers in Equatorial Guinea will benefit from a new factory that processes their cocoa, adding value to their crops and potentially creating new employment opportunities.
