Malabo conference promotes disaster prevention knowledge

Government, business, and university representatives met in Malabo to discuss disaster preparedness.

Malabo hosted a conference on October 28 to promote a culture of disaster prevention. The event, held at the Centro Cultural de España en Malabo, brought together government officials, national companies, and students and professors from the National University of Equatorial Guinea. Ángela Mbang Ncogo Nsa, a professor at the university and promoter of the initiative through the AFODECA association, organized the conference to raise societal awareness about risk prevention and emergency preparedness.

The conference aimed to involve institutions, the private sector, and academia in building a more prepared society. Participants included Maximiliano Ndong Nzo Obono, Professor Lucrecia Nchama Ncogo, Miguel Martín Ondo Sima Mangue from the Ministry of Finance, and Miguel Ángel Anusogo from FUNDACIÓN IDENTIC. They engaged in discussions on strengthening risk knowledge and prevention within the country.

Future plans include awareness campaigns, educational activities, and community actions, such as the 'Yo estoy preparado/a' campaign to foster preventive habits. AFODECA seeks to embed prevention as a daily practice for citizens, moving beyond institutional responsibility. This initiative marks the beginning of a project to enhance Equatorial Guinea's alliances and response capacity to disaster risks.
