Kenya has confirmed nine cases of Ebola, its first outbreak of the disease, after the initial patient travelled from DR Congo and died two weeks ago. The confirmed cases include four relatives of the first victim, three health workers, and a hospital cleaner, all linked to him. Nearly 5,000 healthcare workers have been trained to manage the disease.
The government is working to assure citizens amid rising concerns about further spread, while neighbouring countries like Uganda, Ethiopia, and Somalia are on alert. The US has advised its citizens against travelling to Kenya. This outbreak follows a deadly epidemic in DR Congo where more than 4,000 people have died since May.
Kenyans have voiced worries about the potential for wider transmission of the virus. The current outbreak is the second most deadly in Ebola's history.
