Kenya sugar farmers to elect board representatives November 24
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development confirmed the election date and published the final voters' register and candidate list.
Sugarcane farmers in Kenya will elect five representatives to the Kenya Sugar Board on November 24, 2026. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development confirmed the date and published the final voters’ register and candidate list on October 30. The election will fill five grower representative positions as provided for under Section 6 of the Sugar Act No. 11 of 2024.
Elections Committee Chairperson Harun Khator signed a notice stating the election would follow the applicable legal framework and court orders. The final voters’ register is available on the Board’s website and displayed at designated facilities. Preparations for the election began on May 12, 2026, with an invitation for applications from members of the public.
The High Court had suspended the elections in September pending a constitutional petition challenging disputed sugarcane catchment boundaries. The November 24 vote will determine who represents sugarcane farmers in Board deliberations on industry issues. Growers should consult official committee communications and the published register to confirm their eligibility.
