Comoros notaries train to fight money laundering
A national training session on detecting suspicious funds precedes professional immersion for notaries in Reunion and Mayotte.
The Comoros National Chamber of Notaries held a training session on October 31 focused on combating money laundering and terrorist financing. This event prepares notaries for upcoming professional immersion programs in La Réunion and Mayotte. The training covered identifying beneficial owners, vigilance towards politically exposed persons, detecting suspicious operations, and reporting procedures.
This initiative, organized with the Chamber of Notaries of La Réunion, aims to align Comorian notarial practices with Financial Action Task Force (GAFI) standards. The session was co-led by Anne-Françoise Zattara, a professor at the University of La Réunion, and Ait Ahmed Mohamed Djalim, secretary general of the Comorian Financial Intelligence Service. Notaries are involved in real estate and asset transactions that could be used for funds of dubious origin.
Following the training, the presidents of the two chambers signed agreements on November 2 for the upcoming immersion stages. Notaries will soon join practices in La Réunion and Mayotte to enhance their practical skills. The training lasted three hours and focused on four key areas.
