Morocco parties get November 15 deadline for election law changes

Interior Ministry seeks proposals for 2027 local, regional, and professional elections following parliamentary vote.

Morocco’s Interior Ministry has set November 15 as the deadline for political parties to submit proposed changes to electoral laws for the 2027 local, regional, and professional elections. This move follows September's parliamentary elections and initiates preparations for the next electoral cycle under royal instructions.

The deadline was announced after consultations on Thursday between the interior minister and party leaders, including those outside parliamentary groups. Discussions focused on extending measures from the September 23, 2026, elections, aimed at strengthening electoral integrity, to the upcoming contests for communal, provincial, and regional councils, professional chambers, and the House of Councillors.

Party representatives shared initial observations, with the ministry requesting written proposals to shape draft amendments. The government aims to complete legal preparations for the 2027 elections promptly. Participating parties expressed willingness to contribute to the process, which follows a September parliamentary election that reshaped the political landscape.
