Bamako families fear for missing relatives amid rising murders
Police investigate three murder cases while families search for missing loved ones, with one student missing since October 12.
Vivid concern grips Bamako as disappearances and murders become almost weekly occurrences, with social media relaying search notices. While some missing individuals are found alive, others are discovered dead, leaving families distressed and searching for answers.
Habibatou Boncana Maïga, a 21-year-old student, vanished from her home on October 12, and her father reports no progress from police in locating her phone. Separately, Bocar Ly, a young man reported missing, was found dead, and another young person's body was discovered in Sébénikoro days earlier.
Authorities have arrested suspects in the murders of Broulaye Doumbia, Moctar Fofana, and Abocar Ly, with motives reportedly including homosexuality, attempted rape, and a vehicle sale dispute. Sociologist Mohamed Eglass suggests improved education and family vigilance could help prevent such tragedies.
