Mali signs 30 billion FCFA vehicle deal with Russian firm KAMAZ

The contract includes training for mechanics and drivers, with plans for a future assembly plant in Bamako.

Mali's transition government signed a deal with Russian manufacturer KAMAZ for 350 vehicles worth over 30 billion FCFA on October 7, 2026. The agreement was confirmed by President Assimi Goïta during a meeting with KAMAZ CEO Vasily TSYGANOV in Moscow on October 27, 2026. This partnership aims to establish a sovereign transport and logistics system for Mali and foster gradual industrialization.

The contract extends beyond vehicle supply to include training for future drivers, mechanics, and engineers who will operate within Mali's transport company, ESMTL. KAMAZ also plans to build a maintenance center and eventually an assembly plant in Mali. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mme DEMBELE Madina SISSOKO, stated that both parties are working to meet the established roadmap, with KAMAZ viewing Mali as a West African hub.

The strategic partnership between Mali and Russia was discussed ahead of the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit. The deal aims to enhance Mali's transport and logistics capabilities through the construction of a maintenance center and assembly plant.
