Business Mauritius launches water-saving tool
The organisation aims to encourage companies and employees to reduce water consumption through a six-week programme.
Business Mauritius launched a new Water-Saving Toolkit on November 4 at its Water Stewardship Forum in Ébène to promote water conservation among businesses. The forum, supported by the Mauritius Chamber of Agriculture, gathered private sector representatives and public officials to discuss responsible water management and cooperation.
Philippe Espitalier-Noël, president of Business Mauritius's Sustainable and Inclusive Development Commission, stated that water supply difficulties affect the entire community, impacting employees' daily lives and hindering business prosperity. The toolkit is designed as a six-week programme to encourage water-saving habits at work and home, adaptable for various company sizes.
Business Mauritius plans to engage in technical dialogue with the ministry and the Central Water Authority, proposing a joint committee on water to address immediate needs and long-term challenges. CEO Kevin Ramkaloan highlighted initiatives since 2019 to promote efficient water use, including the creation of the Water Stewardship Forum in 2023.
Why it mattersMauritian businesses and their employees face disruptions and increased costs due to water supply issues, affecting operations and living conditions.
