High court frees boy convicted as adult
Lilongwe court rules boy was a minor when sentenced to 16 years for sexual assault.
The High Court in Lilongwe has ordered the immediate release of a boy convicted and sentenced as an adult. The court determined that CM was a minor when he was tried and sentenced.
CM had been jailed for 16 years after pleading guilty to having sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl in Dedza. He was first brought before a lower court on October 30, 2025, for the offense.
The ruling overturns the previous conviction and sentence, allowing CM to be freed from prison.
