Mozambique government to brief parliament on health, roads, and climate
Parliamentary groups demand details on El Niño impact, National Road 1 repairs, and Nampula General Hospital construction delays.
The Mozambican government will appear before the Assembly of the Republic on Wednesday and Thursday to provide information to deputies. The executive will report on actions in health, social protection, and road infrastructure. The Frelimo party bloc specifically requested details on measures to prevent and mitigate the impacts of floods and El Niño, expected during the 2026/2027 rainy season.
The PODEMOS bloc wants a full account of spending on National Road 1 between 2015 and October 2026, including details on funded sections, investment years, and financing sources. The Renamo bloc is demanding an end date for the Nampula General Hospital construction, which began in 2017 and was due for completion in 2019. They also seek information on efforts to combat corruption and medicine diversion within the National Health System.
Renamo stated that despite 51 years of independence, many health units lack basic medicines and equipment. They also noted that essential medicines and hospital equipment are openly for sale. The Frelimo bloc highlighted that predicted rainfall deficits between January and March 2027 could affect districts in Tete, Sofala, Manica, Inhambane, Gaza, Maputo, Cabo Delgado, and Nampula provinces.
