Windhoek warns of park safety risks

The city's chief executive officer stated the municipality cannot guarantee safety in Zoo Park, potentially exposing it to legal claims.

Windhoek's Zoo Park, once a central gathering place, is now a concern for public safety, according to the city's chief executive officer, Moses Matyayi.

Matyayi informed a parliamentary standing committee that the municipality cannot guarantee safety in certain areas of the park, warning that visitors could be injured and expose the city to legal action.

The City of Windhoek is advertising a six-month tender for landscaping and irrigation upgrades, while the park's amphitheatre has been unused for over 15 years and a 2023 agreement with Innovate Group for renovation has unclear implementation status.
