Algeria sends troops to Niger
Algeria's parliament approved the deployment of its army units to northern Niger on October 25.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune requested parliamentary approval to send units of the People's National Army to northern Niger. The vote in the chambers was favorable, with only the RCD and FFS representatives voting against it.
This deployment marks a departure from Algeria's non-interference doctrine and sends its army, which has limited experience in external operations, into the Sahel region. The move tests the capabilities of the Algerian army in a complex environment.
The decision was made by the supreme commander of the armed forces, President Tebboune, who personally solicited the green light from his parliamentary chambers.
