IER and MUA partner on engineering insurance
The Institute of Engineers Rwanda and MUA Insurance will offer tailored products and training to over 5,000 members.
The Institute of Engineers Rwanda (IER) and MUA Insurance signed a partnership agreement on Wednesday, October 28, at MUA's headquarters. This deal gives Rwanda's Engineering Practitioners access to specialized insurance products, reduced rates, and practical risk-management training. IER President Eng. Philbert Mbanza and MUA's Konde Bugingingo signed the accord, which covers engineers, technologists, technicians, and consulting firms.
Mbanza stated the partnership aims to secure cover suited to risks in design, construction, and on-site work, noting that a single insurer can offer better terms through pooled numbers. He also suggested the agreement could encourage more practitioners to join the IER, which has over 5,000 members and is growing by 25% annually. Professional indemnity insurance is among the products discussed, which Mbanza believes should be a necessity for practitioners.
Bugingingo explained that MUA will develop products for the distinct needs of engineering professionals, using risk data to improve safety and make their work easier. He added that pooling members could make insurance more affordable than individual purchases. MUA plans to tailor services for different roles, acknowledging varied risks. The collaboration also includes continuous professional development and aims to increase public confidence in infrastructure projects by ensuring risks are covered.
Why it mattersEngineering practitioners in Rwanda will gain access to specialized insurance and risk management training.
