Kagame urges youth to prioritize health for future success
President Paul Kagame told over 10,000 young people that personal responsibility for health is key to achieving ambitions.
President Paul Kagame has challenged Rwanda’s youth to prioritize their health, stating that personal well-being is fundamental to achieving future aspirations. Speaking at the MeetThePresident event at BK Arena on October 21, attended by over 10,000 young individuals, Kagame emphasized that harmful habits like alcohol and drug abuse can derail dreams before they are realized. He argued that lasting change stems from individual willingness rather than external imposition.
Kagame linked individual choices and social pressures to the normalization of unhealthy behaviors, which he warned can undermine potential. He stressed that discipline cannot be forced, but rather learned and adopted through a conscious effort to do what is right. The president encouraged young people to use their time productively to gain knowledge and skills that can improve their lives, cautioning against blindly following societal norms.
The president also challenged officials to address poor public service delivery, a concern raised by a young person during the dialogue. Kagame stated that problems require action rather than mere discussion, highlighting the need for improved quality of services in public institutions. His message underscored the importance of personal responsibility in health and the need for effective governance in public services.
Why it mattersYoung Rwandans are directly addressed by President Kagame on personal choices affecting their future and are also impacted by the call for improved public services.
