Rwanda showcases dried fruits and chili at China expo

The nation aims to boost exports to China, which reached $227 million in 2025.

Rwanda is exhibiting coffee, tea, honey, chili, dried fruits, and macadamia nuts at the ninth China International Import Expo in Shanghai, which began on November 5 and runs until November 10. The country is using the six-day event to seek increased exports to the Chinese market and promote investment, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Rwanda’s Ambassador to China, Lt Gen (Rtd) Emmanuel Karenzi Karake, stated that the expo offers a significant platform for Rwandan businesses, including smallholder farmers and women-led cooperatives, to connect with Chinese consumers. This participation coincides with 55 years of diplomatic ties between Rwanda and China.

Bilateral trade between the two nations reached approximately $849 million in 2025, a substantial increase from $300 million in 2019. Rwandan exports to China alone grew by 549% from $35 million in 2019 to $227 million in 2025, while Chinese investment in Rwanda rose by 19% to $548.5 million in 2025.

Why it mattersRwandan farmers and cooperatives can reach Chinese consumers and establish commercial partnerships through the expo.
