drone strike kills 102 civilians in nyala market

health minister in RSF-aligned government reports 113 others injured in attack on Tanqong Market in Dumaya neighbourhood.

At least 102 civilians died and 113 were injured in a drone strike on Tanqong Market in Nyala, South Darfur, on Monday evening. The market is in the Dumaya neighbourhood, west of Nyala, the administrative capital of Tasis, a government aligned with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Dr. Alaa al-Din Nugud, health minister for the RSF-aligned Tasis government, stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) carried out the attack. He said a medical team was dispatched immediately to rescue the wounded and that hospitals were on alert. Eyewitnesses reported the drones struck while the market was crowded with shoppers.

Adam Musa Obama, Executive Director of the Darfur Victims Organization, said his group documented 14 civilian deaths, including women and children. He called for international action to protect civilians and ban drone use against them. The war between the SAF and RSF began in April 2023.
