South Sudanese youth pledge peace at Dakar Olympics

A six-member delegation will travel to Senegal for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games to promote nonviolent conflict resolution.

Six South Sudanese youth from the Upper Nile region are traveling to Senegal for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which run from October 31 to November 13. The delegation pledged to promote nonviolent conflict resolution and stated that violence should not define their country's future.

The French Embassy in Juba is financially supporting the 10-day visit, facilitated by the Nonviolent Peace Force. French Ambassador Philippe Michel-Kleisbauer urged the youth to use the international platform to promote peace and demonstrate commitment to South Sudan's development, calling them potential agents of change.

Ambassador Michel-Kleisbauer also highlighted a cooperative development project along the White Nile, supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and local non-governmental organizations. He stated the youth are expected to help implement this project among local communities and authorities to ensure tangible results and hope for future generations.
