Sudan Rapid Support Forces strike three power stations

Attacks in Kassala and Northern states cut electricity to entire regions and damage vital infrastructure.

Rapid Support Forces drones attacked three electricity distribution stations in Sudan's Kassala and Northern states on Monday, destroying two in Kassala and cutting power to the entire state. The attacks also hit the Merowe station in the Northern state. This brings the total number of power stations targeted to over 17 in the past week.

Local sources reported that the Aroma and Halfa Al Jadida stations in Kassala were destroyed by drones early Monday, causing a complete power outage for the state. The Merowe station, near the Merowe Dam, was also targeted. These attacks come amid escalating strikes on electricity infrastructure across various states, including Gadarif, Khartoum, and Gezira.

The repeated attacks have led to widespread power outages, disrupting essential services like water pumping and hospitals. The Aroma station is a strategic hub for eastern Sudan, supplying power to Aroma city and surrounding villages. The government has lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council, accusing Ethiopia of involvement in attacks on civilian sites and power stations.
