Senegal sends 170 police to DRC mission

The third Senegalese formed police unit, SENFPU-3, will deploy to the DRC with increased personnel and female leadership.

Senegal formally handed over the national flag to its third formed police unit (SENFPU-3) on October 22, 2026, for deployment to the Democratic Republic of Congo under MONUSCO. The ceremony at the GMI camp in Thiès marked the departure of the 6th rotation, which will include 170 personnel, an increase from the previous contingent of 140.

Police Commissioner Jean Mané, deputy director of the GMI, presided over the flag ceremony, emphasizing the flag's symbolism of national sovereignty and history. This rotation is notable for its increased operational strength and for being led by a female Police Commissioner, with 34 other women also serving, aligning with UN Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security.

The contingent underwent rigorous preparation, including leadership training and tactical exercises, validated by UN experts. Commissioner Mané urged vigilance against armed groups like the M23, health risks such as Ebola, and strict adherence to UN conduct policies, particularly regarding sexual exploitation and abuse.
