Haiti force receives human remains after soldier disappearance

The Gang Suppression Force (GSF) received human remains suspected to be those of four missing Salvadoran soldiers.

The Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti announced on October 25, 2026, that it received human remains through a third-party humanitarian organization. These remains are suspected to belong to four Salvadoran soldiers who disappeared on October 18 after an attack in the Santo area of Croix-des-Bouquets.

Jack Christofides, the GSF's special representative, stated that the force cannot yet formally confirm the identity of the remains and offered condolences to the families of the missing soldiers and the Salvadoran government. The GSF also clarified that a Chadian military ID card circulating on social media belongs to a soldier who lost it during search operations; the soldier is healthy and not among the missing.

The GSF assured that further official information will be released once verified and highlighted the ongoing cooperation with Haitian authorities, troop-contributing countries, and the Salvadoran government as essential to combatting armed groups.

Why it mattersChad contributes soldiers to the GSF in Haiti, and one Chadian soldier's ID was misplaced during operations.
