France 24 correspondent removed from Togo
Journalist Emmanuelle Sodji was sidelined by France 24 management in September, amid French diplomatic efforts to restore broadcast access.
France 24 journalist Emmanuelle Sodji, who covered both Togo and Benin, was suddenly removed from her post by management in September. This action follows over a year of France 24 and RFI broadcasts being banned in Togo. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot had previously advocated for the lifting of these suspensions in April 2026.
Off Investigation reported on Sodji's dismissal, which occurred as France's Quai d’Orsay seeks to reopen the stations closed by the Togolese government. Barrot had expressed hope in April 2026 that the broadcast suspensions would be lifted soon. The specific reasons for Sodji's sudden sidelining were not immediately clear.
The French media group France Médias Monde operates both RFI and France 24. The Togolese government shut down broadcasts from both outlets more than a year ago. Barrot met with Togolese authorities to discuss the issue.
